SOIL & PIMP SESSIONS
Soil & 'Pimp' Sessions are just what jazz needs right now: an operation to remove all that's outdated, and a much-needed adrenalin shot in the arm. - The Londonist Emerging from the club scenes of Tokyo, London, and Paris, SOIL & "PIMP" SESSIONS, the groundbreaking sensation of last summer's Montreux Jazz Festival, are set to invade the U.S. in 2009 with their newest album, Planet Pimp. This is a band that accepts no taboos and acknowledges no barriers in their mission to rid jazz of its tired old cliches, and re-energize the values that made it the original popular music of a time gone by. The attitude is ferocious and full of humor; the music charges ahead with abandon: rhythmic, danceable, driven by powerhouse grooves, kinetic piano, and bold horns. They're considered a pop group in their native Japan, where they play before thousands and receive maximum airplay for their videos. In the UK and Continental Europe, they've established themselves at the head of a new wave of club jazz that's packing in young audiences who may not even identify with an older generation, but respond to the sheer enthusiasm and gutsy euphoria of the band's gigs and records. A quick glimpse at SOIL & "PIMP" SESSIONS' My Space page or a search of their You Tube videos and live performances will confirm: this is a new jazz group for the digital age, now ready to begin their friendly takeover of the United States' alternative, club, fusion, and contemporary jazz scenes.
